BACK TO OVERVIEW

On our annual expeditions, young women experience the significance of climate change directly and personally. They gain insight into scientific processes by conducting their own research experiment. The subsequent communication of these topics to their peers strengthens their interest and lays the thematic foundation for (climate) political engagement.

WORKSHOPS

Inspiring Girls in the classroom

Why are glaciers so important for us in Switzerland? How do they react to the ever-increasing climate change? What can WE do?

In our interactive workshops, we give young people an insight into the work of scientists and encourage them to think critically and identify scientific issues.

Workshop “Glaciers: A world of ice” for primary schools.

Workshops “Eternal ice? Glaciers and Climate Change” and “About Measuring and Painting: Art and Science” for Sek I and Sek II.

Duration: 2-4 lessons, more extensive workshops also possible by arrangement!

Costs: Costs are covered by Girls on Ice Switzerland and sponsors.

Our school workshops and day excursions are led in tandem by a “Girls on Ice” participant and a scientist.

TAGESEXKURSIONEN

Inspiring Girls in a day: Science and Art in the landscape

What is a glacier? Why is there a valley here and why are these rocks red?

We discuss these and other exciting questions during our day excursions. We interpret the landscape, offer an insight into the work of scientists in the field of glaciology, geomorphology or geology and deal with the connection between art and science. Depending on the location, we focus on different topics.

Target groups: Elementary school, lower secondary school and upper secondary school, we adapt our concept according to age group and previous knowledge.

Duration: A whole day (approx. 7.30-18h incl. arrival and return). We offer excursions in different parts of Switzerland in order to limit the travel time to less than two hours per trip if possible, but this cannot always be guaranteed.

Costs: Travel costs and meals must be covered by the school/students/teachers themselves. The costs for the professional guidance of the excursions are covered by Girls on Ice Switzerland and sponsors.

Our school workshops and day excursions are led in tandem by a “Girls on Ice” participant and a scientist.
