I am a glaciologist who has been studying ice, mostly in Antarctica, since 2011. I use sound and radar waves to measure the thickness of the ice, build up images of what is lying beneath it, and measure properties of the ice - for example temperature. These are known as geophysical surveys, so I am also a geophysicist! I am currently working as a Research Fellow at the University of Leeds, studying Thwaites Glacier - one of the most unstable glaciers in Antarctica.
I love what I do and I had no idea I could do this as a job when I was growing up! I have also met many people who have inspired me in other parts of my life through glaciology. I hope that being involved in Girls On Ice will allow me to pass on my love of glaciology and the outdoor environment to others. I believe that the experience of trying something to challenge yourself within a supportive team environment is the best way to be inspired.
