Even though she grew up in the flat part of Northern Germany, Lisbeth has been fascinated by alpine glaciers and the cold polar regions from the beginning. To pursue her interest, she studied geography in Berlin, Germany and worked at the German Polar Institute in Bremerhaven. Afterwards, she went even further North to study glaciology in Oslo, Norway and to write her master’s thesis about the Austfonna Ice Cap in Svalbard. Currently, Lisbeth is a doctoral student at the Geophysical Institute, ETH Zürich in Switzerland and measures the thickness of the Swiss glaciers with an airborne radar system.
