I participated in Girls on Ice Cascades in 2010 and since then I’ve been helping as a gear fairy for as many summers as possible. Heading into my senior year of high school, Girls on Ice inspired me to look for colleges with good geology programs. As an undergrad at Colorado College, I worked with Erin and several other current Inspiring Girls Expedition leaders on glaciology research in Antarctica. I graduated undergrad in 2015 and took a year to work. Now in graduate school at the University of Washington, I’ve focus on how past climate influenced past ice sheet changes.
I’ve watched Inspiring Girls Expeditions evolve since my participation and I’m excited to be more involved as the 2017 coordinator for the Cascades expedition. It’s amazing is how much we can all learn from each other in a safe, welcoming, inquisitive, and natural environment. The program is a group learning experience that leads to personal growth for participants and instructors alike. This is my experience with Inspiring Girls Expeditions and this is what makes me so excited to be involved.
